Modesto, May 2, 2012 – Sutter Health Central Valley Region President David P. Benn recently named Daryn J. Kumar as Chief Executive Officer of Memorial Medical Center. Kumar has worked for Sutter Health since 2004, most recently as the interim Chief Executive Officer at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento. He also served as the Chief Operating Officer at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, and Assistant Administrator at Sutter Delta Medical Center, in Antioch. Prior to working for Sutter Health, he served in a variety of leadership positions with Tenet Healthcare Corporation at Doctors Medical Center, San Pablo and Pinole in the East Bay. He started his career in health care in the United States Air Force as a Radiological Technologist and served on both active duty and active reserve duty for 15 years. Kumar was raised in Modesto, California and has maintained strong ties to our community.
“Daryn’s strong operations experience, with particular focus on quality, service and financial goals, combined with his strong connections to the Modesto community, make him the ideal person to lead Memorial Medical Center into the future,” said Benn.
In his roles as interim Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, Kumar provided leadership, strategic planning and administrative oversight to all operational departments within the 754-bed Sutter Medical Center, a quaternary regional medical center with major service lines. As Chief Operating Officer at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, his leadership greatly contributed to Sutter Roseville earning the Sutter Health President’s Award for best overall performance three years in a row. He was also instrumental in establishing the Sutter Rehabilitation Institute in 2008 which is the region’s only stand alone facility dedicated exclusively to acute inpatient rehabilitation.
“I’m thrilled to come back to Modesto and make it my home,” said Kumar. “Memorial Medical Center has long been the community’s preferred hospital and as Chief Executive Officer, I will continue to lead the hospital’s focus on quality, affordability and patient, physician and employee satisfaction, ensuring we continue to be the hospital of choice to receive and provide care.”
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Masters degree in Business Administration. His professional and community activities include roles on the Board of Directors for CALSTAR, a not for profit air ambulance company, a Board Member of the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Lincoln and active participation in the March of Dimes, American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.
